A[nother] Baby Story! {How it all went down}

So this post took me one week to finish...and I have so much more to talk about....

At my 38 week appointment, my doctor said, "next week we will discuss induction." I said, "OH heck no! You can talk about it all you want, but really there's nothing to discuss about that!" Ok, I didn't say that to him, but I was thinking that. Instead, I politely said, "Induction scares me!" =) It's that whole risk of c-section thing...and that Pitocin is killer.
For four weeks (36-39) I was measuring at 37 weeks, so I started thinking this baby might be small (silly me). My doctor decided to do an ultrasound to check the size. The ultrasound measurements said he would be 7.7 give or take a pound. hmph.
Most people know I was very against being induced and I wasn't going to do it, but as it got closer to my due date, I felt prompted to do it, so my doctor scheduled me for 3 days after my due date, but told me to come in the night before to get started. It was all so weird to be scheduling my baby to come. Well Sure enough, that Wednesday I was supposed to go in, I started having regular, stronger, consistent contractions (apparently more major than what I was feeling).
I always wanted my water to break in public so I could have a good story (my mom's water broke with me while she was checking out at the grocery store. She left all her groceries and a mess for the workers to clean up)
I had to be at the hospital at 4:30, so Derek got off work early and to the hospital we went.
I was still only 2.5cm/70%. They started with Cervidil which had to stay in for 12 hours. I got a nice wake up visit at 5AM to remove the cervidil then given time to take a shower before starting pitocin at 7AM.
The contractions actually weren't that bad. During one of my many trips to the bathroom, the nurse told Derek I must have a high pain tolerance (so not true!) because my contractions were pretty much big time (I kept telling her my pain level was a 2.) When I would have a contraction, she'd say, "do you not feel that?! That was big!" I said "it's not too bad, it just feels like I got punched in the stomach." She said, "that sounds painful to me."
My doctor came in around 12PM and I was 5cm. He broke my water (the contractions at that point became a whole different story) and guessed we'd have a baby by 6PM.
I got an epidural about 10-15 minutes later, which only worked on my left side. At one point, I looked at Derek...maybe for sympathy...and he laughed at me. I guess that's why when he went to get dinner that night, the nurse asked me if I felt safe bringing my baby home and if there was any domestic abuse in the house ;) ) For another 20 minutes, I had to suffer, until the nurse had me lay on my right side to get the epidural to move to the right.
At 2PM, the nurse checked my progress and said, "This baby is coming before 6. He'll be here by 4!" At 3:20, I was 9cm so she called for delivery equipment to be ready and checked again at 3:40 and I was 10cm. She called my Dr to see if he wanted me to start pushing or wait so he could check for himself. He ended up coming in to see 'how I push'. He said, "OK this is going to be pretty quick" and got suited up. I pushed 4 times (about 20 minutes) then he told me to stop because the baby was going to push himself out. Sure enough about a minute or less later, at 4:04PM, Easton Warner popped himself out. My Dr and nurses were going on and on about how big he was. I personally didn't think he looked all that huge and definitely didn't think he was going to be over 9lbs.
Because he was big, they wanted to check his blood sugar. They thought it would be high, but it ended up being too low and he had to have his heels pricked 6 times; until it was over 60 two consecutive times.
I switched OB practices with this pregnancy and I'm so glad I did. I absolutely love my new Doctor. The atmosphere was so much better and he has such a great bedside manor. I delivered at the same hospital and just love all of the nurses and hope I never have to deliver anywhere else. I hear mixed reviews about all of the other local hospitals for labor/delivery, but have never heard a bad thing about mine.

(Easton is 2 days old in this picture(taken with Derek's cell phone-I unfortunately have not taken many (ANY) pictures of him. In time...), but his head looks a lot bigger than it is. I thought it was funny when a friend said it looks like I gave birth to a 2 month old after seeing this picture.)
