Little Visitors

This morning I was in the kitchen getting Arden's food ready and I heard a noise at the door. It sounded like maybe someone was putting a flyer in the door. Then I kept hearing it. I thought OK that can't be someone dropping a flyer by because they've been there way too long. The cats were freaking out and I was convinced someone was trying to break in with a credit card (it wasn't loud enough to be someone breaking the door down). The noise finally stopped and I got the nerve to look out the door. I didn't see anything. No flyers, no people, no credit cards left behind from a failed attempt....then I looked down. There was the robber in the corner. A turtle. Apparently he was trying to climb up the door. I decided that the turtle needed to be near water so I got Arden ready, found a container to put him in ( I read that it had to big enough so that if the turtle freaked out and rolled onto it's back he'd have enough room to roll back over or else they could DIE).
You know, I THOUGHT than turtles were scared of people and put their legs and head in their shell when someone came near them or tried to pick them up. How silly of me. Of course they need to protect themselves. I tried picking up this little guy with red eyes and long claws and and his neck seemed to grow by the second and his legs kept coming out each time I tried to pick him up. And what a wiggly thing! He would also apparently dig his claws or suction his feet into the concrete and brick and I couldn't get him off the ground (partly because his red eyes and constantly growing neck and legs scared me) so I gave up (or chickened out) and after being on the porch fighting with guy for 45 minutes, my little helper gave up on me and decided to take a nap to pass the time. Then I spotted this guy on the door, but I didn't mess with him because I saw him eating bugs.

Vinyl Lettering

I think vinyl lettering is great. It keeps space clean while being decorative(yes, I'm trying to SIMPLIFY). We decided we wanted a quote in Arden's room before she was was born, but just recently decided on what that quote would be. I think it's perfect and love the way it turned out. I purchased it from The Letter Cafe.

Gavin Degraw

I love this guy. What pure talent. I think it is safe to say that he is one of our favorite musicians and we got the chance to see him perform at speed street last Saturday night (for free too!) while Arden stayed with Derek's parents. We also got to catch some of Green River Ordinance just before Gavin. Those guys are great too.

Long Time...

Yeah it's been a long time since I've posted and I have lots of catching up to do! Derek's parents came to visit us (well Arden) for 1 1/2 weeks and we had a great time. I was totally spoiled being able to wake up and drop Arden off downstairs in the morning and do whatever I wanted! It was so nice! Arden got totally spoiled too, because now she thinks that someone needs to be with her every minute she is awake so now it's really hard for me to do anything!

On May 15th, we went to an auction for the Young men/women at our church and I made this cake to auction off- Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Cake. I made one a few days later so we could try it and it was sooooo good.
Last week, Arden tried sweet potatoes for the first time (this was her first food aside from the rice cereal) and this is what she thought of them:
She gagged and spit it out into her bib. She loves them now and doesn't really want her cereal anymore but will gobble up the sweet potatoes. Tonight we are going to try pears.
Last Thursday we went to speed street- the NASCAR festival downtown. A lot of gross people go there, so we thought we'd get there early enough to miss a lot of those folks. Apparently not. Oh well. I'll still go every year to see the bands.
Last Friday, we went to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden which was really nice and peaceful to walk around and it wasn't too hot either. I HATE the heat.

Arden with Nonni and Grandpa

Nonni and Grandpa took Arden on a shopping spree and this is one of my favorite outfits they got-
and this is Nonni's favorite outfit- While my mother in-law and I were in Gymboree shopping, Derek and his dad were out in the mall on a couch feeding Arden. A little while later, Derek came in the store holding Arden over his shoulder waving his hand by her bottom- like she was stinky. He said 'she needs her diaper changed. she is so loaded I can't even sit her down' so I took Arden to the bathroom to change her diaper and she was laughing the whole way to they bathroom. I opened up her diaper and there was NOTHING in there! She must've been laughing because she knew she tricked her daddy. After the mall we went to eat at Ruby Tuesday and right when our food came Arden had a blowout. I'm talking Major. I didn't realize it until I was walking to the bathroom with her and my hand felt a little wet. Well of course of all times (I usually have 2 outfits with me) I had NO back up clothes. Good thing we just went shopping for her! I think she really just wanted to try on a new outfit. Little stinker. We had a great time with Nonni and grandpa, did A LOT of eating out and can't wait until they come back!

5 Months already?

Arden eats a lot, sleeps good, laughs a lot and is just so darn cute and she definitely knows who her mom is. She watches every move I make and if someone else is holding her, she stares at me like "PUH-LEEEAAASE come get meee!"

Enjoying that cereal!

She also LOVES the cats and laughs and gets so excited when she sees them. As you can see in the picture, she is teasing Tom with his treats.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

If you blow up the picture above, you can see the paint all over Arden's forehead. Those are her handprints on the paper. Way to go, girl!

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers, but most of all- my mom!

Thanks for being a great mom!

and thanks to my mother in-law for raising such a thoughtful and kind man (who remembered what my favorite dessert is!)

Random things

I really don't know how Huggies could possibly still be in business or who buys their diapers more than once? One square of one ply toliet paper holds more than those things. Seriously.

It's time for us to buy an umbrella stroller, and the one I wanted was a Jeep brand. I thought that the price was decent ($40) and it seemed a lot sturdier and better quality that those cheap $15-$20 ones. Well this morning I was reading reviews on the Jeep and they are REALLY bad. I'm very dissapointed because I love the look. A friend of mine bought one of those cheap $20 ones and her daughter was in it and it ripped and she fell out the back (luckily mom caught her before hitting the ground). It was only a few weeks old and her daughter weighed less than Arden. I'm not sure I want to go that route. I guess I'll just have to go with the Chicco (I LOVE that brand) which is the next price up from the Jeep at $69. Yes, Derek will freak out, but babies use those strollers for years. Why not get one that will last? I would just take my chance on the jeep but there are just too many bad reviews. I have a friend who found one she wants that is $300. Hey, at least I'm not going for that one, Derek!

{LOOK! I can roll over!}
I think Arden has grown 5 inches since her last Doctors appointment. All of the sudden she is way too long for her sleepers and now has only 3-4 that fit. She is starting to look long and lean with the exception of those chubby cheeks.

Arden's evening schedule goes like this:
5-6PM bottle
8PM cereal
8:15-8:30 bath time (cereal can get messy-or a couple of nights ago it didn't get very messy and she was tired and I was tired so I said lets just skip the bath tonight. Well, she had the biggest blowout of her life. It was all over her belly and in her belly button, all over her legs. She got a bath that night)
After Arden's bath, I lay her on her changing table rub her with lotion and massage her feet. She smiles, sometimes laughs and if I'm rubbing one foot, she'll stick the other one in the air. I don't know if it's because she likes what I'm doing or she just likes to stick her feet up or both, but it seems to calm her down.
8:45-9PM bottle. No, I can't believe that she eats as much cereal as she does and then about an hour later she can drink 7-8oz.

One morning I went in to wake Arden up and found her laying like this.

Arden needs some soft books. I thought about buying used ones, then I thought about babies we don't know putting the books in their mouths and then Arden doing it. Kinda gross. Maybe you can wash those books?
